Pet insurance is basically the same concept as the health insurance plan you might get from your job. When your cat or dog becomes ill you take them to their veterinarian like you normal would for the animal’s health care. The only difference is now after you pay, you will fill out a simple form to register your claim and send it to your pet insurance company. The majority of the policies out there simply reimburse your for the fees that you have paid. There are a few out there will actually pay the vet directly on your behalf.
Usually the insurance policy on your pet will have deductible dollar amount that you will have to pay before your pet insurance coverage will start paying benefits. The idea of this is that this is the dollar amount that you will have to pay and the insurance will pay the amount over that. Your deductible amount will be determined by the policy that you choose from your insurance company. Each company has it’s own benefits and reimbursement options. Make sure you are aware of your deductible. It is the amount that you will need to pay out of your own pocket.

If your pet is anything like my dogs, they are considered members of the family. They go on walks with us, they sleep in our bed and they watch TV with us. Some companies even offer benefits that I never even considered or thought of before. For example, have you ever thought of what would happen if your dog got out of the house and was running around the neighborhood and caused a car accident? You can get an insurance policy on your pet that will cover any damages in these types of scenarios. I never even thought about something like this happening until I started shopping different insurance companies for my dogs.
These pet insurance policies are getting popular fast. I am sure that you have heard ads for them on the radio or at least seen one on TV (if you don’t have a Tivo). The prices on pet insurance policies have come down drastically in the last couple of yours. You owe to yourself and your pets to make sure they are covered with pet health care insurance.
